The Soul Set Free

BibleIn his reflection of Psalm 32 Charles Spurgeon wrote, “What a killing thing sin is!  It is a pestilent disease! A first in the bones! While we smother our sin it rages within, and like a gathering wound swells horribly and torments terribly.”  So much of our lives are consumed and made all the more unbearable simply because we refuse to deal with sin.  David says in Ps 32:3, “For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.  For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.”  So many believers are weighed down by the needless weight and burden of unconfessed sin, simply because they refuse to come to Jesus in humility, brokenness and repentance.  Listen to David’s testimony when he says, “I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.”  What a glorious truth!  When we confess our sin, the Lord is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse from all of our unrighteousness.  We to can sing with King David, “Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.”
